The mandarin orange tree, often simply called a mandarin, is a small citrus tree (Citrus reticulata) with a fruit similar to other oranges. Mandarins are usually eaten on their own or in fruit salad. Particularly reddish mandarins are sometimes marketed as tangerines, although this does not correspond to any botanical classification. The tree is more drought-tolerant than its fruit. The mandarin is tender and does not tolerate cold well; it can be cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions.
