Apium graveolens is a plant species in the Apiaceae family, commonly known as celery (var. sweet) or celeriac (var. rapaceum), depending on whether the petioles (stalks) or the roots are eaten, respectively. Apium graveolens grows up to one meter tall. The leaves are pinnate or bipinnate with rhomboid leaflets 3–6 cm long and 2–4 cm wide. The flowers are milky white, 2–3 mm in diameter, and are borne in dense compound umbels. The seeds are ovoid to globose, measuring 1.5–2 mm long and wide.
